Have you had time to see your new movies yet, Shahid? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I've seen "Memento", which I loved. I couldn't believe what that man did to himself, and I don't mean the markings, either! I could go on forever about that guy!
I've also seen "Casino".
Last month I bought one of those Mega-Pack sets of 50 "Classic Horror Films". They're so cheesy, they're great fun! AND, there are also quite a few good movies! "Nosferatu" is in it! (SP?) Plus more.
Next, I want to get the "Gunslingers" because it's full of great Spagetti Westerns, like "Death Rides a Horse" and "They Call Me Trinity" or whatever the title is. I've never gotten it straight.
AND, I also want the Hitchcock pack, which has some lovely old things, including a couple of silents. It has "The Lodger", which is terrific!
While I"m discussing greedy wants, I also desire "Pitch Black" and "Chronicles of Riddick".
Thank God for Amazons's Z-markets!!! I'm so cheap!!!!
Did you get more?
Anyone else? |

About a month ago I unglued my wallet and got Treeline's mega-pack of "50 Horror Classics". (not certain if I got that title right)
However, I decided Treeline charged too much, and being the cheap little thing I am, I actually went to one of Amazon's "z markets" and bought the set used, for about $15, BWAAAA-HAHAHHA!!!
I've only gone through about half, but I love this stuff, even the ones that make me want to throw myself off a cliff. One of them, "The Last Man On Earth", I would DIE to do a remake of!
and usually the mere mention of "remake" to me is as good as handing me a knife to drive through your heart! But I would happily do a remake of it, although I guess you could say "Omega Man", with Charlton Heston, was the remake. Good movie, that. |

The awesome feeling you get when you realise you were right

Hey Mercury!
Saw all of the movies I purchased, and was amazed. I'll break it down film by film:
Memento - was mesmerising. Fantastically directed, acted, and played out. The disjointed narrative had me guessing until the final reel, when they hit me with something utterly breathtaking.
The Machinist - made my jaw drop. Bale is one of the best actors on screen in recent years. His physique is haunting and creepy beyond belief, which is tricky for someone skinny like me to say. The story, acting, and twist is brilliant to watch thanks to Bale's commitment to creating "real" characters and the director's expert handling of the excellent script. I've run outta superlatives now!
Road to Perdition - brought me close to tears. I've only ever cried at the ending of American History X and Bambi (which doesn't count cos I was a kid, and it was the scene where the mother dies), but Road to Perdition nearly made me bawl. The story is great, and considering it is classed as a gangster film, there is very little savage brutality normally associated with gangsters on screen. I say that was a damn good choice in this film. The 'road trip' style bonding of father and son was awesome to watch.
Anyway, I have also bought Oldboy, Collateral, Dog Day Afternoon, and Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, which are all fine films in their own right. Though Oldboy has made it onto my top ten list.
Peace. |

I'm sooo glad you liked Memento! The thing that got me the most was the burned photograph. You see it pretty soon on in the movie and then sort of forget about it, because everything else the guy does to himself is so much more in-your-face: the tattoos, inkings, notes, etc. So I forgot about the picture. Then, at the end, BOOM!! Not only is that burnt pic explained, I realized it was HIM doing it deliberately so he could start the cycle all over again! I'm sure everyone else in the theaters knew it already, but I didn't. Can you imagine how many times he might have done this? Solved the "mystery" (or part of it) and then burned a picture as fast as he could, knowing that within a few seconds, he would loose his memory and God forbid he might keep it?! The single thing that was the most fragile and easy to destroy was the biggest clue of all. Everything else that he used was actually permenant, but only served to start him on this horrible journey again.
Why would he do that? I mean, was solving the mystery of his wife's murder the only thing he lived for? I don't know why that upset me so much. It thrilled the hell out of me.
Oh, you got "Dog Day Afternoon", too, eh? I can't wait till you see it
I've read the graphic novel "The Road to Perdition", but never saw the movie. Tom Hanks is in it, right? I've heard so much about it, I guess that's something else for my list of things to see, in addition to seeing Christian Bale in anything, since I haven't seen him in a movie since he was 15
omg, I was reading your post and I saw that the one I threw up a day or so ago(see, I forgot again already!) is basically a REPEAT of an old one---on the MegaPack Horror classics. I repeated a brag Ah gee, not like me at all! |

Saw Dog Day Afternoon yesterday...loved it!!! Pacino and Fredo (don't know his real name) are fantastic! The ending shocked the hell outta me! I was speechless for ages.
I love Memento...I think his character is one of the most complicated and disturbing I've seen in a while. But I can understand why he goes through the cycle again and again. He knows that he won't remember it after it's happened, which is why he keeps photos and such (mementos, if you will). But then what happens after? He carries on living his life? What life? He has no memory of what he's done 5 minutes earlier, so what kind of life is he expected to lead?
I think that by constantly going over the same cycle over and over again, he feels like his life has some purpose.
Peace. |
