UK, December 14, 2007 - The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Blade director Steve Norrington will emerge from the filmmaking wilderness to direct the upcoming Clash of the Titans re-make, according to a report in Variety today.

The story revolves around Perseus, an ancient Greek demi-god who has to battle the snake-headed creature Medusa and kill the sea monster Kraken, all in the name of saving the beautiful princess Andromeda.

The 1981 original was notable for its awesome stop-motion effects from animation legend Ray Harryhausen, as well as a stellar cast including Lawrence Olivier, Burgess "Micky from Rocky" Meredith, Ursula Andress and... umm... Harry Hamlin as Perseus.

The update was written by Travis Beacham, with a re-write from Empire Strikes Back scribe Lawrence Kasdan.

Norrington hasn't directed since 2003's ill-fated League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which was beset by production problems, including disputes between the director and leading man Sean Connery.

The pic is set to start production early next year.
