Ultimate Death Machine Format
Subject description: This is what I want with Death Machine
|

Well, I have to make this a regular topic, I guess, because I forgot how to make a "sticky" post.
I have the American version of Death Machine, which I love to pieces, BUT I WANT the original . . . but on a dvd.
I've heard of at least three version from other countries, and that's great, but not all of them is in the wide-screen, and I don't think any of them have what the old laserdisk had----and that's apparently some chat sesssion Stephen gave at the Tokyo fantasy film festival in '95.
So I'd love it if anyone and everyone who has any information on new versions or even just rumors, to please post in reply to moi. We can keep a chain of irritating, non-stop demands.
So a re-cap:
1) dvd
2) 2.35:1 aspect ratio
3) original cut OR the "directors" cut
4) THE TOKYO CHAT SESSION
Obviously there would be no fabulous fold-out like the laserdisk has with pictures of Himself and his storyboards. But I think I can live with that. Maybe.
Otherwise, I save up and buy one of the incredibly expensive laserdisks.
That's all I want. |

Thanks for the info on the site. All they really say is that it is, indeed, in widescreen, which is almost good enough for me. No other information, but it's a great start to making me greedily happy. thank you, again |

Did you get the PAL version, Mercury?
I'm only asking as I recently purchase it, I think. In regards to special features... well, there aren't any. At all. Just the film and scene selection, which is a great pity.
But it is in Widescreen! |

Alas, no. I only have the Ohio version.
Kidding. But what I have is the North American, the "NTSC". And it's only 99 minutes and like I said, full-screen(TV aspect ratio, horrid). As far as I know, that's what's available here, unless you own a multi-regional player. I understand the PAL is basically the original theatrical cut but with a slightly different edit. It's two hours long, isn't it? I don't mind buying the PAL version at all, but my dvd isn't capable and a new one is in the distance.
So . . . tell me your version is fantastic Aside from the scars of being beaten down to full-screen, my dvd shows a nifty little movie that was pretty well-done and a blast to boot!
Welcome, by the way, deezelboy |

If I'm not making a mistake, you can read any DVD PAL/NTSC and any zone with the DVD player of your computer.
I am not totally-totally sure, so if anyone can confirm or deny this, it would be great. |

Yeah, it's just shy of two hours long - can't remember the exact length, and I'm at work now so I can't check it.
I never saw any Theatrical Cut, I'm afraid, so I can't compare. Either there are serious gaps with what I was doing with myself in 1995 or it got dumped in the straight-to-video slop bucket when it came over here. Which was a great pity, IMHO. I believe the same may have happened with The Last Minute - which I'd never even heard of until recently, and I really should have if just for the soundtrack.

I could be very wrong, but wouldn't you also need a TV capable of displaying PAL. Although as far as my limited understanding goes, Urban Legend's probably right in that your computer will be able to display it corectly.

It's fantastic. Or, at least, it's a quirkly little movie with some absolutely hilarious scenes and characters. I really enjoyed it. Really, really enjoyed it. And it needs to be Widescreen if only because of the icons on the WarBeast's point of view - one of the funniest things I've ever seen!

Ah, thank you. I thought it was about time I popped my head round the corner to say hello, if only because I've watched a whole two of Norrington's movies now! |

I don't know for UK, but here in France without being a BIG success in the US box office this kind of movie is directly released in Video, or TV.

If you want to have a look we host a Trailer of The Last Minute.

That's right, your TV must be able to receive a PAL signal, ... it's also possible the DVD player may be able to convert the PAL signal into NTSC, ... I guess it depends of the manufacturer ... and price ...
I have a VHS player which supports both standards, but if I play it on a PAL only TV the image is in black and white. |

Well, to be honest I went out and bought it as soon as I saw Death Machine and remembered that Norrington was the man behind Blade. Watching it on Saturday, fingers crossed. |
