The very latest on Rambo 4 - can you stand the excitement?
/.../ an agent who claims to have seen the shortlist of directors for the project offered these names: Stephen Norrington (mmm...Blade), Martin Brest, John Dahl (!), and Gregory Hoblit. /.../

Rambo Fever at the AFM
/.../ Australian sources (an agent) has managed to find the wish-list of directors that the studio hopes to coax into directing "Rambo 4". They are "Blade" helmer Stephen Norrington, "Beverly Hills Cop" great Martin Brest, "The Great Raid" director John Dahl, and "Frequency" director Gregory Hoblit. /.../

| I'm kinda half and half on this. If Norrington has the budget to back it up the man will deliver a bad ass film. I think he would bring a style back to the Rambo films not seen since part 2. But if he doesn't have the money then the producer''s gonna be real hard asses and are not gonna let him be himself. But seeing Norrington back to directing is what i really want. |

It'd be a relief just to see him back in the director's chair, that's for certain! Whatever it would be for, I'd prefer it to be a well-confined sort of film, because his control of whatever world he creates is nothing short of amazing when he keeps his stories within an arena, instead of trying to blast past a screens boundaries. His colors, his sense of "space", music and that exquisite sense of timing of his...well.
Keep it small and it'll stay tall.
If not this, something will present itself.
Welcome, Professor |

This is not really related to Rambo IV and Stephen Norrington, but I think it's amusing.
On the TV show, "The Contender", during a barbecue on a beach with the families of the Boxers, one of the fathers asked Sylverster Stalone if he would be doing a new Rocky movie in the future. Sly laughed and answered, "No," unless he could fight his own arthritis.
It was only a few months ago, but I now see "Rocky Balboa" and "John J. Rambo" will both be back in 2006 ( both the same year? ).
Sylverster Stalone, who is 59, may not be as fit as in the past of-course, but I think he is still in a very good shape and still has the "Eye of the Tiger".

I'm not a big RAMBO fan, but if this movie gets Norrington back in the directors chair (which he has been away from for far too long), then I'll be first in line to see it!
I'd rather see SN do a smaller film so he can get the control that he lost on LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN. If I recall, it was the lack of control because of studio pressures that caused him to take this 4 year sabbatical ( ) anyway... |
